The Artist

John Michael Caruana

John Michael CaruanaJohn Michael Caruana’s love for art started at a very young age when he used to watch his father, who is a teacher of art and an established artist himself, paint. Being intrigued by the effect of paint and its ability to form an image that provokes emotion, John has followed art as one of his deep-set passions.

John has been attending the Malta School of Art in Valletta since 2005 to further develop his skills in art, design and artistic printmaking.

Malta is an island bathed with intense sunlight for long hours, even during most of the winter months. The strong hues of colour which vibrate throughout the year inspire the artist to use the power of light and colour to express himself in his works. Colour is the core feature in John Michael Caruana’s works.

To create his works of art, John uses various media such as water colours, pastels, pencils, ink, printmaking, acrylics and oil colours. Landscapes, seascapes, still-life, figure drawing and manipulation of the subject are some of the subjects executed by the artist.

John enjoys travelling to experience different cultures, is fascinated by the richness of nature and makes it a priority to visit art galleries and museums regularly. Photography is his ally in capturing a quick impression of the places he visits. He is a pharmacist by profession.
